Antibes, the charming and chic seaside rampart town on the French Riviera, is home to the Picasso Museum, celebrating the works of the modern artist. It was this juxtaposition of old and new, the modern sensibility against the ancient backdrop, that inspired our Antibes color. This color blends a fresh quality for contemporary interiors with a patina that tells of time, aging in place, full of depth and interest.

Bois Fumé is a warm mid tone natural brown shade. Smoked wood, or bois fumé in French, is a time-honored tradition of treating wood to bring out the natural darkened tones, changing the wood’s tannins in the process. It also makes the appearance more luminous, casting a glow from within that is impossible to replicate using heavy surface stains. A light wire-brushing is used to subtly bring out the grain and create an ultra-matte non-reflective surface.

In the beginning, this floor has a honey brown tone with a light dusty grey undertone. But as this floor ages, the warm color of the oak starts to show through and this natural patina brings about a golden visual that reminds us of a field of dried wheat. Celebrated for its salt, the island of Ré off the French western coast harvests coarse sea salt by hand, honoring traditional methods. Within these delicate fleur de sel crystals is a shimmer we began to seek in a light floor visual never harsh, or artificial, but with subtle qualities that suggest a special and rarefied origin. Where the North Atlantic brushes the shore, sand and sea blend in a variance of lights we reflect in this finish.
